Food Systems, Health, and Environment Working Group

Main content start

Every day, the food we put on our plates is a decision that impacts our health and the environment. Globally, unhealthy diets contribute to noncommunicable diseases and malnutrition. The agroindustrial food system contributes to one-third of all greenhouse gas emissions and drives deforestation, biodiversity loss, pollution, and water scarcity. We urgently need bold solutions across the entire food supply chain, from production to waste, to transform our food system from a planetary health problem to a sustainable solution that is healthy for people and the environment.

Based in the Center for Human and Planetary Health, this transdisciplinary working group will convene experts working in all areas of food systems to develop solutions-oriented evidence for supporting the nutrition and health of populations globally while mitigating environmental impacts of food production. Co-led by Christopher Gardner, Tamiko Katsumoto, and Nathalie Lambrecht, this working group aims to foster collaboration, generate new knowledge, and drive impact.
